we woke up late this morning because of our late night last night. actually, perhaps i should rephrase that...you woke up at 8:00, i fed you, then we fell back to sleep and didn't get up till 9:30, meaning we missed sacrament meeting. oops!! when dad woke us up he suggested we go to an 11:00 meeting at a different ward, so we did just that. after church dad suggested going on a sunday hike, so we did that too!
last year dad and i were on a drive up through farmington canyon and we found a little lake with a hiking trail, so we thought that would be a fun place to go. well, we got all the way up there and the canyon was closed due to flood damage from earlier this summer. bummer! dad then suggested we do the same hike we did last month up mueller canyon in bountiful, except go all the way this time, but i didn't really like that hike much, so i suggested we find a trail up immigration canyon. dad obliged. on our way to immigration we both had the idea to find a trail up milcreek instead, so we changed our course and headed to milcreek canyon!
milcreek canyon is so beautiful and full of hiking trails. we got a map from the ranger station and drove on up till we found the trail we wanted to hike. there were 20 or so trails on the map, so i narrowed it down by length and elevation. we are just beginners so i didn't want to do a crazy long hike, and i didn't want it to be too steep either. dad wanted to have a good view of the mountains and valley below us from the top, so the trail i decided upon had a decent incline, but was one of the lowest of the 20 on the map. i figured it would be a good trail and not too hard.
we parked, i fed you, we leashed the dogs and strapped the baby bjorn on dad, put you inside and up the mountain we went. it didn't take long for us to realize the trail i picked was soooo steep! even dad complained how uphill it was! but guess what? i didn't complain once. i marched on up that mountain without like it was nobody's business. haha just kidding, i hiked super slow and was panting and sweating the whole time, but i never complained or suggested we turn around. dad was shocked, and i must say i was pretty darn proud of myself. :-)
the pups had the time of their lives!! it was obvious they were in heaven up there. they pulled me up the mountain almost the whole way up. duke started getting tired about 2/3 of the way up so we stopped and took a water break. i guess i should say we all were tired at that point! ha ha duke's panting just made us realize how exhausted we all were. ;) while we were resting a lady was on her way down and told us we were about 2/3 of the way to the top. that gave us a burst of energy so upward we went. that last 1/3 to the top of the trail was sooooo steep, but up we went until we finally made it to the top! it only took us about an hour, so the trail wasn't too long, but it was sure hard.
on our way down dad and i switched jobs - i carried you and dad took the dogs leashes. he decided to take the pups off their leashes since they seemed so tired and are usually pretty good about listening to him. that ended up being a mistake...dukey drawers for one reason or another decided to sprint down the trail (i think he could smell a dog in the distance) so dad had to run after him! i have to admit it was kinda funny. :) sweet claus just stayed back with us as we slowly hiked down. you'd think hiking down would be waaaay easier, and in most ways it was, but for me it was scarier since i was carrying you. as i mentioned earlier, the trail was so steep, so i had to concentrate and make sure i didn't fall. we made it to the bottom in about 40 minutes or so, and just in the nick of time because it started raining! the rain actually felt really good since we were so hot and sweaty from our arduous hike. ;)
despite the steepness of the trail, i quite enjoyed our sunday adventure. we really want to try and go hiking more often!
love you little one!
love,
mom
