..night w/grandma..

dear finn,

not only was yesterday your eight month birthday, it was also mine and dad's anniversary. we wanted to do something special to celebrate our three years married, so we decided to have grandma come babysit so that we could spend the night out on the town! :) well, grandma didn't just babysit for a few hours...she spent the night. this was our first time being away from each other overnight. i wasn't worried, because i knew you were in good hands...but i must say i was quite curious to see how you'd do. i didn't know if you'd feel any separation anxiety or wonder where your mama and dad were. you love your grandma tons and are always so happy when she is close by, so i thought you'd most likely do well...and you did!

dad and i left to go to a movie around 5:00 and you were down for a nap. we came back after the movie was over so that we could put you to bed. i figured that might make things easier on grandma...you have been so unpredictable with going to bed lately (some nights you go down without one peep, other nights you cry for 5 minutes and there are those rare nights where you cry for 20). it was one of those nights where you didn't make one peep, so that was fantastic!

after putting you down, dad and i drove down to slc to the melting pot...mmm mmmm delish! there was a 45 minute wait before we could be seated, so dad - being the kind-hearted, generous man he is - took me to pottery barn to buy an anniversary present. i picked out a wooden sleigh that matches all my wooden boards in the kitchen. it's ador! then we drove back to the melting pot where we enjoyed a delicious (and huge) meal. cheese fondue for an appetizer, meat fondue for the main course, and s'mores chocolate fondue for dessert. it was tons of food, and i gained the three pounds back that i had lost earlier in the week. :( bummer, but it was worth it! after dinner we spent the night at the anniversary inn, in "pharaoh's tomb." it was quite the hotel room, complete with a snake shower (the water came out of the snakes mouth)!

we came back around 10:00 the next morning. i don't know if that was when you were supposed to wake up from your nap, or if you just heard our voices in your subconscious and were excited that we were home, but you woke up about 10 minutes after we arrived home! made me so happy to see your adorable, smiling face. grandma said you did so great...you woke up at 7:00, ate your bottle, then went back down for a nap. she loved spending the night with you, and i am sure you felt the same. while dad and i did enjoy our night together, we both missed you like crazy and talked about you pretty much the entire time. we both love you so much baby finn...you mean the world to us and we have loved every second of being you mom and dad.

love you to the moon and back dear boy!

love,
mom
