..water fountains..

dear finn,

i'm sure i have told you this before, but you looooove water! weather it is a bath, the hot tub, the pool or the dogs water bowl, you love splashing around in it and i must admit, it's so fun to watch (besides the dogs water bowl part ;))! anyway, i kind of guessed that you would probably love the fountains at city creek and the gateway, so while we were at city creek the other day, i decided to let you run around in the fountains.
you absolutely loved it! you didn't quite know what to make of it at first, but as the water shot up and sprinkled you with its cool drops, you must have realized how fun it was and were totally loving it. well, that lasted a good two minutes. as you were standing there, minding your own cute business, some little kid bumped into you and knocked you flat on your back. you hit your head so hard, which could not have felt good since that is like a marble floor. :( it was so sad. you started screaming tears of pain, and it literally broke my heart. i held you for a few minutes and tried to make you feel better. you're so brave, and it didn't take you long to get back up and running on your feet, but after that you wouldn't go near the fountains. i felt so bad for you, especially since i saw how much you loved it.

we got in the car and headed home, and i just broke down in tears. :( something about seeing another kid hurt my baby just did not sit well with me. i knew it was an accident, but i still felt so bad for you and wished i could have taken the pain and fear away. i was also worried that you would be traumatized by this experience, and would never want to play in the fountains again.

we took you back to the same fountains the next day, and same story....you wanted nothing to do with them. when we set you down, you immediately headed the other direction, either for the escalators or the "adult" water fountain (the one that isn't for playing in!).

well, a couple days later i decided to try the fountains at the gateway. there is a lot more room to run around there, and doesn't seem as crowded anymore, so i thought we might have a better shot at you playing in them there. good thing we tried it, because i was right! it took you a few minutes to warm up to them, but once those fountains started shooting up, you had a grand ol' time playing in them! it was so fun to watch your face as you got sprinkled by the water....i don't know if it was because they were cold, or if they just shocked you or what, but your face kept cracking me up. you had fun roaming all over, exploring and playing in the water. an hour or so later i decided it was time to go and you were not happy with me. ;) don't worry kiddo, we'll find plenty of times to go back. i'm just thrilled that you actually enjoyed it!

love,
mom
