dear baby finn,
welcome to the year 2012! i have a feeling there will be some exciting things in store for you, and for our family, and i can't wait to see what the year brings!
it is always so refreshing to begin a new year. even though january is a bit of letdown (you know, after all the hype from christmas), and it is usually freezing cold and boring, there is something about starting the year off right. making new year's resolutions, taking down the christmas decorations, cleaning the house out....out with the old, and in with the new.
we started our year off with a bang...literally...and so did the rest of our neighborhood and the whole city practically. when the clock struck 12 you would have thought it was the 4th of july out there, if you didn't know better! fireworks went off for a good 30 minutes all over town. it sounded like a war zone, but it sure looked pretty outside. :) dad and i (okay, mostly i) had the bright idea to wake you up and give you a kiss at midnight. i thought you'd stay asleep since it was so late, but i was wrong. i don't know if it was the loud bangs from the fireworks or if we just picked you up on the wrong side of the crib, but you cried for a good hour. we tried everything we could to make you go back to sleep...rocking, tickling your back, bouncing you up and down, etc...but none of it was working. eventually i gave up and dad took over. he must have the magic touch because he finally got you to fall asleep around one. i guess we won't try that again. ;)
our day has been pretty low key. since today is sunday, there isn't much we could do to celebrate, so we just went up to grandma cindy's house after church. she fixed us a delicious meal. after hanging out with her for a while we came back home and took some christmas decorations down and watched tv. nothing too exciting, but it was nice to be together as a family, celebrating your first new year.
i hope 2012 is as good to you, and us, as 2011 was. i love you with all my heart little man.
